What Social Work means to me

Published by esper_d under Uncategorized Edit This

I have always possessed a drive to empower my community and be an advocate for change and the betterment of our people.  I’d love to see people of Color, people of economic hardships and today’s youth rise up and make something amazing of themselves and really represent what it means to achieve success, no matter the odds.  I want to be at the forefront of this empowerment revolution by helping people succeed.

I know one day to achieve that success is through social work.  I admire social workers and am very proud of my own Hispanic heritage and want to work with the Spanish-speaking population.  I am thrilled to have found a Bilingual/Bicultural Social Work program right here in New
Mexico!

Just thinking about using my acquired language skills to assist needy families drives my passion to begin my Masters and begin working with families and youth in need of guidance and other areas.  The best feeling is knowing I can really make a difference.

NY or not?

Published by esper_d under Uncategorized Edit This

Hey, moms! I wanted to let you know, that for one day only, you can get a free bottle of Suave. Click here for your free coupon.

Anyway, so I may or may not go to NY.  It depends a lot on money.  It is only a weekend trip but will set me back around $300 for everything.  I’m trying to decide if its worth it.  At least I’ll have a place to stay and get to see all my WGI! sisters, have our slumber party, and then attend the training.  But it also means getting a babysitter and traveling for many hours each way. Yuck.

I guess I’m leaving it up to God to point me in the right direction.  I’d really like to go, its just a lot of hassle on not only myself, but my family who has to take over mommy duty and expensive as well.  Not to mention all the transportion!

If anything, I do get to attend the one day training on manifesting what you really want to do in life.  That’s really amazing :)  I love those We Got Issues ladies.

Ok this is ridiculous

Published by esper_d under Uncategorized Edit This

Congress wants to pass a bill making it illegal to resell children’s previously used clothing.  They are afraid of lead.  But come ON!  So, you’re going to put thrift stores out of business, mothers who sell on eBay and craigslist, consignment stores, even prohibit freecyclers???

OK, so homeless kids can’t even get inexpensive clothing anymore.  Low income families must resort to buying NEW and NOT cheap clothing?  Where are they supposed to get this money from?  This is SO incredibly ridiculous.  I’m so angry.

Even if you can afford new clothing, what is going to happen to the old clothing?  You’re going to fill landfills with them while a child goes freezing in the meantime?  This has to be the stupidest thing I’ve heard of all year.  I swear, Obama better do something about this or I’m going to be utterly dissapointed.  I expect better.

Let your voice be heard.  Sign the petition today. http://www.rallycongress.com/make-second-hand-kids-clothes-legal-/1471/view_all/state
